Canadian Wildfires – Your Safety is Important to Us

This message is for our clients in Flin Flon and Creighton who have had to evacuate their communities due to recent wildfire activity. 

We hope you and your loved ones are safe during this difficult time. As wildfires continue to affect communities across Manitoba and Saskatchewan, you may monitor these events for updates by visiting the websites of the Government of Saskatchewan and the Government of Manitoba. In addition, we recommend that you review these preparedness tips from The Canadian Red Cross, regarding what to do before, during and after a wildfire.

We want to reassure you that we’re here to help and are aware of the support available through your insurance policy. If you’ve been ordered to evacuate due to a wildfire, your home or tenant insurance policy may include Mass Evacuation Coverage. This coverage typically takes effect as soon as an evacuation order is issued.

This coverage may include:
• Hotel and temporary accommodation costs
• Meals and essential living expenses
• Transportation and pet boarding (where applicable)

Please remember to keep all receipts and documentation related to your evacuation.

This includes expenses such as hotel stays, meals, transportation, and any other essential costs. Having these on hand will help ensure a smoother claims process.

Common questions:
Q: Are hotel stays covered during an evacuation?
Yes. If your policy includes Mass Evacuation Coverage, hotel accommodations are typically covered from the time the official evacuation order is issued.

Q: Do I need to wait until I return home to file a claim?
No. You can begin the claims process immediately — even if your home has not been damaged.

Q: What should I do first?
Please contact your insurer or broker as soon as possible. We’re here to guide you through every step and confirm what your specific policy includes.

Q: What if I don’t have access to my policy documents?
No problem. You can view your policy anytime through The Standard My Policy portal. If you’re having trouble accessing your documents, email us at [email protected] and we’ll help you get what you need.
