Together 125 Runner Up: Shyler H.

This year, we’re celebrating our 125th Anniversary. We invited our clients and friends in the community to share their moments big and small where The Standard Insurance played a part. 

Shyler H. sent us a story about how he actually became friends with his broker. 

Shyler’s Story

“When I bought my first vehicle, I was unsure and somewhat nervous about the insurance process. However, I’ll never forget our first meeting.

I have been for much of my life an avid player of roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons, and other similar titles both digitally and in person. When I set up my first appointment to meet with an Insurance Broker, I expected a very serious, no-nonsense suit and tie environment, which was somewhat outside my area of expertise at the time. You can imagine my surprise then when my broker Chris invited me into his office, and on every wall of the room was memorabilia from comic books, video games, movies, and of course, Dungeons and Dragons! Suffice to say, it wasn’t at all what I was expecting and I was immediately put more at ease.

This of course prompted a conversation about Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and other roleplaying games that we both had an interest in. It was very encouraging to find such a personable and friendly broker who just happened to share my interests! In addition, the process of setting up my car insurance was easy and clear to understand. After I explained that I was new to all this, he took the time to explain everything to me in detail, and answer all of my questions at length.

By the end of our meeting, not only was I feeling confident about my insurance, I felt as though I had in some way made a new friend, and I was looking forward to dealing with The Standard again!

As a follow up to the above anecdote, when I had my first vehicle collision (not my fault) about two months later, Chris was able to help me with the process of making a claim, and made himself readily available to me. The entire process was unlike any other customer service experience I’d had, in that I felt like he actually cared about what was happening and was invested in helping me make the entire process as quick and painless as possible.

I have nothing but good things to say about The Standard and I’d largely attribute that to the friendly, personalized and quality service I received from my Broker: Chris the Dungeon Master.”
