The Standard Proudly Supports Our Kids Count in Thunder Bay

Our Kids Count is a community development program that works with families and children in Thunder Bay and administers a variety of programs around food security and parenting support including a community kitchen and emergency food hamper. 

They provides many unique programs brought forward from their planning team made up of current program participants. Recent Our Kids Count programs have included a new toy lending library and a new short term childcare program, as well as a lunch kit program. They are continuously fundraising in order to offer these programs. 

Our Kids Count has seen an increased demand for many of their services in recent months. Jackie Knough, Executive Director for Our Kids Count, suggested that part of this is due to the inflation of costs for many of the necessities families rely on as well as the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Tournament

The Standard Insurance is proud to sponsor Our Kids Count’s first ever golf event in Thunder Bay.

On Thursday, June 23rd 2022, Our Kids Count will hold their first ever fundraising golf tournament at the Fort William Country Club. Proceeds from the event will support their Big Brothers Big Sisters program. This program is important for children and youth in Thunder Bay who are in need of strong and healthy relationships where they can create a bond with someone and have experiences that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to have.

There are currently 31 children on a waitlist for the program and Our Kids Count is looking for new mentors to join. With this tournament, they hope to raise at least $20,000 to support their programming.
