The 2023 Moose N’ Fiddle music festival is taking place August 25th and 26th, 2023. This is the first time an in-person festival has been held in over 3 years and The Standard Insurance is proud to be a sponsor. 

Denise Lysak is the organizer of the Moose N’ Fiddle festival. Denise joined us for a brief conversation to share more details about this year’s event. 

Who is in the lineup for the 2023 festival?

Lysak: We will have what I am calling a powerhouse – a trio of three musical acts on Friday, August 25th. It all starts at 5 p.m.. It is happening along the water’s edge and under a tall canopy of trees. The three musical acts include Sierra Noble, Little Miss Higgins and Belle Plaine. Of those three acts, only Little Miss Higgins has played at the festival before, so we’re super excited to have them all come down to Nester Foss to play at this year’s Moose N’ Fiddle.

Then we get to Saturday and August 26th, and it all starts with the kitchen party. This is really a crowd favorite. The Kitchen Party is a group of a number of the musical acts that play throughout the festival, but they basically jam live on stage together. They do some cover songs that are always crowd pleasers, but they also do original tunes and at different times throughout the 90 minute set, they all play together.

So that’s a lot of fun and then after that, the musical lineup includes Super Boat & Friends, which is a local act from Sioux Narrows. Low Lily, which is a duo from Vermont. Amanda Rheaume and, what we hope will bring the house down as the headlining act, on Saturday evening is The Slocan Ramblers. They’re a little bluegrass and a whole lot of fun.

This will be the first in-person Moose N’ Fiddle since 2019. How does it feel to bring the festival back to Nestor Falls for 2023?

Lysak: We are super excited to be bringing back this cool little festival at the lake. Like you said, it has been a number of years, so we’re ready to to have that chill vibe to wrap the festival with both food and drink and to have a whole bunch of people gather at the festival site. With that, we’re lucky too, to see the Black Oven pizza truck return. They’ve been with us since the very beginning and so has Lake of the Woods Brewing Company.

This year all the proceeds that are raised from under the craft beer tent will be supporting women’s shelter Saakaate House. And that really is, Matt, that’s really a testament to all the volunteers that help make the festival even possible.
