The Standard Raises Funds for Kenora Supports Ukraine
Kenora Supports Ukraine is a local group of Kenora citizens concerned about the war in Ukraine. Nathan Moncrief joined us to talk about the work has done for Ukrainian refugees coming to Canada. Nathan’s wife is actually from Ukraine so the two of them felt it was important to get involved with Kenora Supports Ukraine.
Offering Support To Refugees
The aim of Kenora Supports Ukraine is to raise funds and then actively support refugees fleeing Ukraine and coming to Canada. Kenora Supports Ukraine initially set an ambitious fundraising goal of $75,000 to assist the first 8 refugees they have committed to helping.
The group has provided support to refugees coming to the Kenora area. So far three individuals are now living in Kenora with five more soon on the way.
Kenora Gives Back
Moncrief has been impressed with the level of assistance Kenora Supports Ukraine has already received from other members of the community. This has ranged from people donating funds, to helping out with hosting individual refugees and providing them with transportation. Some have also offered free ESL (English as a Second Language) to new refugees.
Those looking to donate can do so online through a flow through fund set up by the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation or directly through St. Alban’s Church.
