Together 125 Grand Prize Winner: John M. from Sioux Lookout

This year, to celebrate our 125th Anniversary  we invited our clients and friends in the community to share their stories and moments with The Standard from over the years. We asked for everything from a client’s funny conversation with their broker to their experience insuring their dream home. Hundreds of individuals answered the call and shared their thoughts on their time dealing with us.

However, one story stood above the others. John M. in Sioux Lookout sent us a personal story about our Sioux Lookout Branch Manager Sharon Sayers and the origins of our Sioux Lookout office.

John’s Story

“My wife and I have been clients of Standard Insurance for over 30 years and we have had a very positive relationship with the company throughout this time.

In 1992 I started my Sioux Lookout Fly-In Camps business based in Sioux Lookout. I was looking for an insurance broker to obtain coverage for my business. Alfred Kartinen, a local outfitter, directed me to Ron Eslinger at The Standard Insurance’s office in Dryden. We immediately transferred all of our business and personal insurance requirements to The Standard Insurance.

As a tourist operator, during the winter months, I travelled to sports shows in the Midwest of the United States. It was during these shows that I was introduced to Glen Alcock from the Standard Insurance office in Kenora. I introduced Ron and Glen to other outfitters that I knew and as a result they were able to acquire more business contacts for The Standard. We have also had our daughter, her children, as well as some of our friends become clients of The Standard since then.

After knowing Glenn for a few years, he announced to me that they would like to open an office in Sioux Lookout. He asked if I could help them with a location and also if I could recommend a person to manage the office. I had known Sharon Sayers for quite some time and knew that she was experienced in the insurance business. I suggested to Glen to get in touch with her. That was the beginning of Sharon’s long and excellent career with The Standard Insurance in Sioux Lookout. She had a great relationship with Ron and Glen until their retirement.

The Standard Insurance in Sioux Lookout, under the management of Sharon Sayers, has contributed greatly to the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. They have supported our sports and recreation programs as well as taking part in many charitable events that have happened throughout the years.

Congratulations to The Standard on your 125 years of excellence.”

John is our Grand Prize Winner and he has won $1,250 in gift cards to local business of his choosing.
